Short-eared Owl

This nomadic owl has an amazing courtship ritual. The male flies really high up and then drops to the ground clapping his wings together. It may be because of this that they do not breed in captivity as it would be impossible to build an avairy tall enough so all the Short-eared Owls at the centre are ex-wild ones that have been injured in some way and are unfit for release. Instead they get to spend a happy retirement here with meals brought to them daily!
